RESEARCH STUDY PARTICIPANTS WANTED!

WestEd is conducting an efficacy study of My Math Academy, a widely used math technology program developed by Age of Learning, Inc. My Math Academy uses games to engage students while providing personalized content, supporting learning in context, and measuring learning. The program includes more than 300 activities that cover 130 early math concepts and skills. It also offers detailed data dashboards to help teachers track students’ progress and support their math instruction.

This study will aim to answer the following questions:

• Do students who use the program in kindergarten score higher on math achievement tests at the end of the year than students in the control group?
• Do students who use the program in both kindergarten and first grade score higher on math achievement tests at the end of first grade than students in the control group?
• How are students’ program use, game-based performance, and math achievement related?

The study uses a school-level clustered, randomized, experimental design. Schools will be randomly assigned to one of two conditions: treatment or control. Schools will stay in their assigned conditions for two years while students are in kindergarten and first grade. Students in the treatment condition will use My Math Academy in class for at least 15 minutes per day, three days per week. Students in the control condition will use their school’s regular supplemental math program. 

This independent study will assess the effectiveness of using My Math Academy in school for improving students’ math achievements.
